The least intriging part of Mass media!

I enjoyed this class very much, but the one piece of media that I have a problem with is television. This is kind of ironic because this is the media outlet that I chose for my final paper, but it is a different part of TV that I'm not happy with. We have the FCC who monitors what gets broadcasted and what doesn't get broadcasted, and the whole big controversy is certain programs and content being on regular channels at times when young children are watching. Okay I understand that, but ten years ago I didn't hear half the inappropriate words that are on regular TV shows now during the hours of five and nine. Now we all know there are very few children that go to bed at five in the afternoon, so for there to be the words; ass, bitch, damn, and s.o.b on regular shows I find it to be a problem. Although I'm not a parent I work with children that watch TV and may hear these words, so what is the FCC censoring because it's not those words? Are parents and caregivers supposed to sit on top of their children just to make sure that they're not watching any of the programs where these words are used regularly? What parent has that time? So this is my problem with regular TV today. We tell our children don't say those words because they are bad, but then they hear them on TV everyday, so then what?

Hi Jessi this is Diane, and I am a parent. I let my child watch TVO with the penquin Pangoo. That is why I love Candian Broadcasting
The CBC. Another outlet was PBS Seame Street, You can choose. Yes, that what I was saying in class. Parents are suppose to monitor the children. It is pretty hard when every sitcom is using those words.

Another options that we used was not watch Television and just watch vidoes. That is why my video collection is extensive.

It is not just filled with movies, but with exercise videos
Especially Richard Simons because they are fun. I bought the series from Mcdonalds and they stopped promoting the adults active meals. I do not know why it was very good idea the resturant does carry very good salads. I going to serve a salad serve a great one like a Butterfly salad with beets and Jicama and romaine lettuce and watermelon and use a citrus dressing. I mean make it a meal.

But their you have it. I found alternatives methods, because television did not use the greatest of language and

I would like to add. Why do we have language. If it takes alot time to find the correct word. So laziness is the excuse to use obscenities. Writers are getting to paid to write. Why not use real words. does not take talent to use words like feces (shit) but it takes some talent to find a better word. Face it they want their sitcom to give a real appeal Bill Cosby was suppose to represent a family. They did not use swear words, Gilmore Girls pride themselves on fast talking isms they did not use use swear words either. Both sitcoms were gear toward family and relationships. There is a book written using the Gilmore word isms. I guess you have to be a fan. However there is. Yes, writers ought to write but they do not need to write in swear words, Family guy is funny but the baby does not need to be thinking those kind of thoughts even though they are funny. Really watch Family Guy. I know but get past some of it. It is really funny. Eventually you do laugh out loud. I do not watch it unless my 21 year old was home. It was part of the television watching assignment. But there were some parts that I laughted out loud. There were parts when I really felt sorry for the Wife of the show because her family does not appreciate her. I can identify because there are days when my family does not appreciate me. Or at least feel like it. But yes, Jessie I know where you are coming from and the fact that we have to pay for television you think they could but on better shows. Read my initial post. Television does have a potential but it falls short of entertaining and educating, that is why as a parent my child did not watch it until the age of three.

Pedrician said no television until the age of three. Age of three it was. Did other things. Gymboree, took walks, play in the sand box, put in a laundry basket.

I personally did not rely on the television set as a babysitter.

Good luck and all my best
