Hey Everyone, I reviewed a Good Housekeeping magazine and found that there are quite a few advertisers within the pages. The list was pretty extensive but in the end, all of the products being advertised affected women and their lifestyle. The largest advertising categories were food, medical items, household items and charities. Then as a close second I found makeup, cleansers, and cleaning supplies for the home. After that there were items that covered hair care, teeth, crafts, kids, pets, insurance, water, feminine hygiene, phones, cars, and other magazines by the same company. All of these ads were every other page in the first half of the magazine and then the items being advertised were placed near articles that they related too. The articles were located with no ads surrounding them but were tucked way into the second half of the magazine and not very easy to locate.
I also noticed that for instance, food ads were near the recipes and cleaning ads were near household articles. The magazine publisher definitely goes out of its way to capture a particular type of woman in this magazine. Since it is about keeping up with your home, most items did focus around the household and a few toward women and their appearance. Fashion and makeup or hair were hinted at but not the main focus.
