Books I have read
Since I currently have an online literature class, and I have to read an ethnic literature book, post to discussion boards write a journal entry and write a research paper about the book every week, I do not have time to read what I would like to read. The last book that I read for my own pleasure was in the late summer. It was a Danielle Steele novel, "Safe Harbour". What I like about her books is that they are NOT just romance novels (if anyone has read them, you know what I am talking about!) When she writes, she really researches her topic, and brings real facts into the story. An example is the use of setting. The places where the story takes place are real, including the street names and places of interest. If her book is set in the past, or involves a historical event, the reader almost gets a mini history lesson in reading the story. I wish that I had the time to read other books, but with my classload, it is all I can do to get my homework done! The books I have read for my class are "A Gathering of Old Men" by Ernest Gaines, "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Hurston, "The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan, and "House Made of Dawn" by N.Scott Momaday. I think that I would only choose to willingly read "Joy Luck Club" and "Their Eyes..."....I did enjoy those two books (and I also enjoyed the movie versions.)
