Alcoholism a genetic disease

Live Outside the Bottle

I was watching the Fox 2 news this morning. They did a segment on alcoholism. I just found out that alcoholism is not only a behavioral problem but also a disease. It is a genetic problem. People with family history of alcoholism have a higher risk of being alcoholic. Today, a behavioral therapy (AA) is not only the solution but also a prescription drug is now available.

Here is the web address, if you want to find out more about it: www.liveoutsidethebottle.com

Alcoholism runs in my family tree. That's why I am very careful to limit any drinking to the very rare occasion. For the most part I am not a drinker at all. I think if you know it is part of your family history, you should work at being extra careful and not use it as an excuse!!
