Today I was thinking about whether technology has made my life easier. The last two mornings I attempted to log onto my computer only to find out I have something wrong with my antivirus software. Therefore, this morning I spent an hour and a half removing my software and deciding to download the free one that came with Comcast. Gateway computers had recently told me they don't recommend Norton Antivirus anylonger.
This is why I began to think about easy or not in regards to technology. On the one hand I can look up the weather forcast at the touch of my keyboard, or jot a couple lines by way of email to my sister and she can see it almost immediately. I can shop from home or go to school from home. On the other hand, I have had to learn how to remove spyware that finds its way into my files. I have had to learn how to download antivirus software to keep my computer safe. Or to research the antivirus software choices that are available to everyone and to make the best choice for my family. Unfortunately, I don't necessarily understand what makes one software work better for me versus another.
I have to say that since technology has entered my household I spend more time taking care and cleaning up problems than I do enjoying it. When my computer crashed a couple months ago due to a computer virus, it took me four hours on the phone with Gateway Computers to set my computer up again. And that was to the original state. Then another complete day of downloading updates to get it back to the way I want it. So I think my life was much simpler before technology. But I do enjoy the perks.
