The last time I read a book for enjoyment was The Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer. This was a year ago, I was sitting in my early childhood class and in that class we were talking about child abuse. All of a sudden this girl mentioned the book. She explained what the book was about, and I found myself very intrigued and curious about it. So the very next day I went and bought the book. I finished the book in three hours. This book was the fastest book I ever read in my life.
This book is an emotional drain. It is about a little boy who was not wanted by his mom. She treated him terribly, wouldn't feed him, beat, and at one point stubbed him. I found myself almost in tears and confused. Confused of how Dave’s dad did little to stop the abuse and how no one really cares about Dave’s well being. I just wanted to take him in my arms and never let him go. I wanted to protect him in anyway possible.
After reading the book I found my self depressed and sad. But at the same time happy because I am fortunate enough to have a loving, caring and happy family.
This book did very well change my understanding of child abuse and what actually is happening out there. The book leaves the reader with many questions and gives the reader better understanding that child abuse do really happen.
