Jena 6

A few months ago, I was watching Court TV and I heard about the "Jena 6" incident for the first time. For those of you who may not know, Jena 6 refers to a racially charged incident that occurred in Jena, Louisiana in 2006. According to the Democracy Now! website, "Six black students at Jena High School in Central Louisiana were arrested last December after a school fight in which a white student was beaten and suffered a concussion and multiple bruises. The six black students were charged with attempted murder and conspiracy. They face up to 100 years in prison without parole. The fight took place amid mounting racial tension after a black student sat under a tree in the schoolyard where only white students sat. The next day three nooses were hanging from the tree."

After I read about the Jena 6 incident, I was intrigued. I wanted to know more about the students involved and what each of the involved students' futures entailed. I just can't believe that there are racial tensions that lead to such extreme actions. I believe that the Jena 6 is a horrible incident for numerous reasons. I am going to continue to do some research on this situation and I will report back at a later time. If you happen to know about the Jena 6 then let me know because I am very interested!
