Last Friday's Class

Class went well last friday, despite the change in instructor! Though our substitute was very nice, and she did a great job running the class, it felt very different than our usual class. Overall, it went well and I even heard our substitute comment, as we were leaving, that she had a good time and that we were a great group to work with.

I was very fascinated by the clips of the frontline special. Even though we don't think about it, we are bombarded by marketing in many forms in our lives. I don't think that we are dumb to fall for marketing- it is crafted to be an unnoticed focre that silently persuades us to make certain purchasing decisions. I was especially interested in the french psychologist/marketing guy, Clotaire Rapaille, with his methods of finding the "code" that would work for marketing certain kinds of products. I would have loved to be part of one of his focus groups. At the end of the segment on Rapaille, I was a bit disappointed that we didn't learn more about the code, but I guess that's what he is paid for. If the show was allowed to broadcast the end result of his research, any marketing company would get it for free. In addition, I was really happy with the way we went over our journal assignment on taking sides. Our class is very opinionated and knowledgable as a whole, so the timed response with no rebuttals was a good idea.
